Signs That Your Air Conditioning is Breaking Down

Steers Heating & Cooling Offers Excellent Air Conditioning Maintenance

Steers Heating & Cooling knows the signs that your air conditioning is breaking down. It’s not fun having your air conditioning system fall apart on a hot summer day. It can leave you feeling very uncomfortable. Here are some ideas courtesy of Angi that can help you determine if your air conditioning is breaking down.

You’re Not Getting Cool Air or a Good Air Flow from Your System

Cool air might not flow because your evaporator or filter is dirty, or from low refrigerant. Air flow is not only impacted by low refrigerant levels. It can also be because of a worn blower belt, and tripped circuit breaker. Those same circuit breakers can also affect if it turns on at all.

Your Air Conditioning Keeps Turning on and Off…or Just Keeps Running

Short-Cycling is what causes the air conditioning to turn on and off. This result may be the result of a dirty air filter or evaporator, or because the system is too strong. If the system has too much power, it won’t know if it needs to turn off.

You want your air conditioning to run when it needs to. But it does need a break from time-to-time. If it keeps running, that can make it tough for your system to avoid freezing it. This can result in a very expensive energy bill at the end of the month.

The System Leaks Fluids, or Your Condenser Coil is Freezing

Water and Refrigerant can spill out of the system. Condensation is normal outside of the air conditioner. Did you notice a bright color stain near the unit or water leaking on your property? That is the time to act.

While you may want all the cool air you can get, your air conditioner needs a chance to rest, too. It could lead to your condenser freezing over. This could result in a more expensive utility bill.
